The absence of menstruation is one of the problems that most concern us women and amenorrhea is one of the types of absence, which can be caused by a dysfunction of the hypothalamus (brain), ovaries, vagina or uterus.
Amenorrhea can be transient, intermittent or permanent and is usually classified into two types:
Absence of menstruation in women (15 years and older) who have not yet had menstrual cycles.
Absence of menstruation for more than 3 months in women who previously had regular menstrual cycles, or 6 months in those with irregular menses.
When amenorrhea lasts more than 3 months, or it is oligomenorrhea (less than 9 menstrual cycles per year or a cycle length greater than 35 days), investigation is required.
Adequate stress management, proper supplementation and nutritional support are basic in the treatment of amenorrhea. Because treatment should not always include contraceptives.
Integrative gynecology looks for the origin and treats the cause of amenorrhea in a comprehensive manner.
